A cultivar originally from Spain, it is planted extensively in its home country and increasingly in large olive groves in Argentina. This variety is becoming very popular here in Australia.
A hardy small tree of low vigour, it has a wide spreading habit and dense canopy. Because of its small size this cultivar can be planted in higher density. Overhead straddle harvesting of this variety is being used in Australia. The fruit of Arbequina is small, fruits early in it's life, produces a consistent high yield crop with the fruit ripening early to mid season.
The oil is high quality but has a low stability.
