BAROUNI

A cultivar from North Africa, probably from Tunisia. It is known as Bidh el hammon, in Arabic, Oeuf de Pigeon {Egg of a Pigeon} in French and Uovo di Piccione (Pigeon Egg) in Italian.

 

A vigorous tree with large leaves, brilliant green on top and grey yellow underneath. The fruits are large, up to 10 grams with a rather large stone it is prized for its large fruit. It can be pickled green or black. Barouni is also known to be a very good pollinator.
