Originating in the province of Florence, Italy. Gradually it has been planted all over the olive growing areas of Tuscany, Marche and Umbria as a pollinator for Leccino, Frantoio and Moraiolo.
The leaves are narrow and distinct from other Tuscan varieties, lanceolate and long and the colour is dark green on the top and silvery grey underneath. Not a vigorous tree, it has a spreading pendulous growing habit, hence the name. The fruit of Pendolino is small and ripens early to mid season.
The quality of the oil is excellent, but due to the size of the fruit and pendulous growing habit it is quite difficult to machine harvest. We recommend Pendolino for its attribute as a pollinator, a rate of 10% of Pendolino trees is recommended.
