A popular French variety from the regions of Lauquedoc-Roussillon-Provence and Corsica. This variety has now been introduced in many parts of the world. This variety is also used as a pollinator for Barnea .

 

Not a vigorous tree, it has a spreading habit, the leaves are rather big and light green. The fruit weigh 4 grams on average and the stone is relatively small, mostly pickled green. Picholine is a productive variety in diverse conditions.

 

The oil is high quality and the yield is around 18%, the flavour of the oil is mild and fruity. Picholine could be considered a dual purpose variety.
